DSC MR imaging is a valuable tool in the assessment of intracranial mass lesions. It provides physiological information regarding tumour microcirculation and hemodynamics that is not provided by conventional MR imaging, through parametric maps of cerebral blood volume and cerebral blood flow.
MR perfusion imaging can be used for both assessing brain tumour grade and monitoring for tumour recurrence in previously treated patients. The minimally-invasive scan can accurately diagnose recurrent brain metastases after radiotherapy.
Clinical Director William Bailey commented “We were pleased to be able to assist in achieving the DSC contrast enhanced perfusion scan. The analysis of this type of scan is key for neurosurgeons to better understand brain tumours and to inform decisions about future treatment and surgery. We are proud of our team of radiographers who have the knowledge and experience to be able to manage complex scans of this nature.”
RMS provide a unique radiology service for NHS Trusts across the UK, using existing NHS equipment to maximise capacity on scanners before evaluating any additional modular or mobile support needed. RMS radiographers have vast experience in the development of cutting edge protocols to improve the service offering of an imaging department, including cardiac and stroke imaging.
