RMS Clinical Director Celebrates 35 Years in the Industry
RMS founder and clinical director William Bailey has had an outstanding career in Radiology and is celebrating 35 years in the industry.
Bill’s career has included managing the MR and CT department at Manchester Royal Infirmary as well as co-founding RMS in 2011. A career highlight for Bill was implementing a national fast stroke MRI protocol and helping to lead the implementation of a post-mortem imagining service in Manchester and, subsequently, nationally.

Throughout Bill’s career, he has written and published many academic papers, including ‘How to Report the Lumbar Spine MRI’ and ‘A Hydration Policy for Gadolinium Contrast Agents’. Bill was also involved in the Northern Area Research Study for The Lancet, and implemented a series of innovative MR imaging sequences to improve the accuracy of MR verses CT.

Notable keynote topics that Bill has presented on include stroke, virtopsy and ‘the seven sequences to try before you die!’ as well as a keynote on the new MR Imaging sequences at the National Forum on Forensic Medicine, 2015.

Recently Bill was integral in conducting a highly complex Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast (DSC) Enhanced Perfusion MR Scan for a patient.

Bill co-founded RMS in 2011 and the award-winning, innovative radiology business has gone from strength to strength with Bill as Clinical Director overseeing the quality of its radiographers and its radiology solutions for NHS Trusts across the Northwest, Yorkshire and Wales.

Commenting on his career longevity Bill said “It doesn’t feel like 35 years and I have enjoyed every minute. Since establishing RMS it has been important to me to help the NHS through difficult times. With an increasingly older population, lack of funding and the recent strain of Covid-19, the NHS is under immense pressure and radiology departments struggle to manage increasing waiting lists. I am proud of the unique solution that we can offer to NHS Trusts, which can see significant savings being made when compared to using mobile units for additional scanning resource. I’m looking forward to the next 35 years in this exciting and ever changing industry!”
